High-Order Large Eddy Simulations of a Wind Turbine in Ducted and Open-Rotor Configurations

چکیده

Abstract High-order large eddy simulations are performed to study the performance and flow fields of a ducted wind turbine (DWT) operating at different tip speed ratios. To evaluate effects duct, with same ratios also on corresponding open-rotor turbine. It is found that consistently obtains higher power outputs than counterpart, duct itself enhances turbulence blade trailing-edge vortices but weakens hub vortices. Flow bifurcation observed largest ratio identified be caused by blockage effects. Comparative both turbines under yaw angles. noticed configuration insensitive small angles maintains all Moreover, it wakes configurations recover more quickly as angle increases.

High-order Large Eddy Simulations of Confined Rotor-Stator Flows

In many engineering and industrial applications, the investigation of rotating turbulent flow is of great interest. In rotor-stator cavities, the centrifugal and Coriolis forces have a strong influence on the turbulence by producing a secondary flow in the meridian plane composed of two thin boundary layers along the disks separated by a non-viscous geostrophic core. Most numerical simulations ...

Altering Kinetic Energy Entrainment in Large Eddy Simulations of Large Wind Farms Using Unconventional Wind Turbine Actuator Forcing

In this study, horizontally periodic large eddy simulations (LES) are utilized to study turbulent atmospheric boundary-layer flow over wind turbines in the far-downstream portion of a large wind farm where the wakes have merged and the flow is fully developed. In an attempt to increase power generation by enhancing the mean kinetic energy (MKE) entrainment to the wind turbines, hypothetical syn...

Numerical aeroelastic analysis of wind turbine NREL Phase VI Rotor

This study investigated the performance and aeroelastic characteristics of a wind turbine blade based on strongly coupled approach (two-way fluid structure interaction) to simulate the transient FSI[1] responses of HAWT[2]. Aerodynamic response was obtained by 3D CFD-URANS approach and structural response was obtained by 3D Finite element method. ...

Large-eddy simulation of a compressor rotor

Wall-modeled large-eddy simulation is applied to a transonic axial compressor rotor (NASA Rotor 37). The simulation results show a significant improvement over fully turbulent RANS in the prediction of the overall performance, mainly by capturing boundary layer transition on the blade. Sensitivity of the result to the end-wall boundary conditions (isothermal/adiabatic walls) and the inflow prof...
